Spice Route Chenin Blanc 2015 (Swartland South Africa)

Spice Route Chenin Blanc 2015 (Swartland South Africa)

“The new age of the Swartland commenced in 1997 when Charles Back stumbled across an old Tobacco farm, Klein Amoskuil, with a peculiar vineyard of Sauvignon Blanc – later to be discovered as the oldest in the country – just West of his native Paarl. Bewildered by its quality in a region better known for its wheat and rolling fynbos hills, the potential was obvious, so Charles set forth to acquire the farm and study its soils and extreme climate.”

Charles is the third generation owner of the famous Fairview winery in Stellenbosch and voted the most influential man in the South African wine industry.

Chenin Blanc is the most widely grown grape in South Africa and Charles makes this off the Spice Route Swartland vineyards.  This wine has a lovely, bright light yellow colour. The nose is complex with tropical fruits and melon followed by flinty notes. The palate is rich and broad, reminiscent of the Koffieklip soils, with well-balanced acidity from the first picking.
