Yealands Estate, the greenest and most ecologically sound winery and vineyard. To reduce the use of machinery the vineyards are grazed by Babydoll sheep, Kunekune miniature pigs and lots of chickens. The use of wind turbines and solar energy make the business a net exporter of energy. They said the rolling hills of Awetere and the proximity of the sea would never be any good for growing grapes or making great wines. Well they were all wrong!

Under the guidance of Chief Winemaker Tamra Kelly-Washington their wines were an instant success and Peter Yealands dream of making great wines with minimum impact on the planet came true!

This Pinot Noir is a perfect example. This is what the experts say!

“The first sniff reveals a creamy, almost chocolate aroma, undercut by violets and cherries. Then take a sip – this is exactly what a ‘silky texture’ feels like in the mouth. A wonderful wine.” Will Lyons The Sunday Times

“An adorable pinot, amazingly soft and rounded, with a creamy, milk-chocolate layer under fresh, ripe raspberries, a toasty-oak touch to the finish. One for duck.” Susy Atkins The Telegraph
