Delas Freres Saint Esprit Cotes-du-Rhone Rouge 2016 (France)
Founded 160 years ago in the heart of the northern Côtes du Rhône, Delas Freres today crafts world class wines from both northern and southern Rhône.
Tending the steep sloping vineyards, which total some 30 hectares of vines, the team adapt their growing practices to each plot of vines to let the terroir of the Rhône shine through in the wines.
Crafted by winemaker Jacques Grange (who is originally from Burgundy), the wines from Delas Freres epitomise finesse and elegance. Recent vintages from the vineyards of Hermitage, Crozes-Hermitage, Chateauneuf-du-Pape, Côte Rôtie, Condrieu, Côtes-du-Rhône and Côtes-du-Ventoux have bee lauded in the press for their intensity of flavour and excellent value.
The vineyards are influenced by the Cotes du Rhone’s Mediterranean climate and prevailing “Mistral” wind. This harsh wind – both necessary and beneficial to the vines’ development – is caused by the difference between the Southern and Northern Rhône’s atmospheric pressures. Highly seasonal rainfall, hot temperatures and abundant sunshine are also the characteristics of this region.
The entire crop is destemmed and fermentation takes place in closed vats for 15 days. Daily pumping over ensures proper extraction.
The wine is kept in stainless steel vats in order to preserve the fruit aromas in the wine. Bottling takes place after 8 months of ageing.
Deep, plum coloured hue with a classically “Syrah” nose. The wine is full of aromas of violets, liquorice and has a full, rounded palate with delicate tannins.
"Provencale" style cuisine such as stuffed tomatoes and aubergines, mixed grills and barbecues.
